“Next” looks at the unique nature of the rapid expansion of craft brewing in the New England region, and the necessarily shifting trends within a relatively small market. At 1:25 into the audio, the speaker mentions four favorite craft breweries, three of which are Austin Design projects! Direct link here.

We’re talking about the idea of opening one’s own craft brewery. It’s an increasingly popular and thirst-quenching bit of entrepreneurialism across our region, and Salem-based Fox Farm Brewery is the latest to open its taps. Owned by the husband/wife team of Laura Adams and brew master Zack Adams and managed by Zack’s brother Dave Adams, Fox […]

Tree House Brewing’s new facility is taking form, rising from the forested hillside in Charlton, MA. With the aid of a 12-ton crane, the primary steel frame is going up quickly on a clean, well-managed site just south of the Mass Turnpike, seen in this drone shot  from yesterday – November 1, 2016.

The Charlton, MA site chosen for Tree House Brewing‘s new production facility and visitor’s center, as it looked on our first visit in November 2015. With The Alchemist ready to throw open the doors on their new brewery in Stowe, VT, Austin Design is delighted to announce that we are well underway with planning for […]

Photographer Michael Penney made a visit to the Northampton Brewery awhile back and we are visually the richer for it. The Brewery has been a long-time client of Austin Design, of course – we’ve done four extensive projects for owner and founder Janet Egelston there over the years. Michael has an ongoing personal photographic project […]

The early morning pleasures of walking into the office of a western Massachusetts architectural firm. Mid-October, Colrain, MA.

Breweries aren’t the only type of  libation-oriented enterprise which you can (happily) find sprouting up all over New England. Another upstart category on the local food and drink production scene is craft distilleries. The region now boasts over 50 different spirits makers,  with the Green Mountain State leading the way: there are 15 members […]

We recently added our Vermont Mountain House to our profile on Houzz; it’s been getting some nice attention, as the project is a true showcase for master craftsmanship and attention to detail. Houzz is a popular user-driven building and remodeling inspiration site and has become wildly popular in only four years; the platform has over […]

Guiding principles can be timely as well as timeless: doing more with less, integrating for efficiency,  embracing appropriate innovation. It’s good to keep one’s finger on the pulse and read the winds of change. Novelty may pass or mature into relevancy – one of these these transitioning technologies has been 3D printing. With the advent […]

Inspiration is where you find it and Houzz has got it in spades. This fast-growing website is the leading online resource for visually-driven searches in the architectural and interior design fields. It’s like Pinterest on a single-minded mission: it all revolves around building, remodeling, and decorating a home. Reaching beyond Massachusetts, Vermont, and New England […]

A recent post on the Seattle-based Build LLC blog seems tailor-made to mesh with our own recent initiatives here at Austin Design Inc. (ADi): to consciously embrace and enhance our place on the web. As architects working in Massachusetts, Vermont, and further afield, we find ourselves grounded in the traditions and disciplines of New England, […]

If you build it, they will come. Colrain, Massachusetts notwithstanding, the place to be is the place where everyone can find you – online. Austin Design Inc. has spent the last several months in development of a completely new website – not a renovation or rebuild, but all-new construction from the ground up. The only […]
