Sturdy and accommodating, the existing house is a fine example of colonial revival architecture, yet like many houses of its era, the interior spaces were small and closed-off from each other. To expand the kitchen and introduce a new master bedroom suite, the design gently expands the footprint of the house while maintaining its best existing features.

The soft curvilinear form of the addition pushes out from the kitchen, breathing new life into the interior while also establishing new visual and physical connections with the backyard. The interior is a bright, lively reflection of the family’s personality, with colorful cabinetry, hand-blown Italian glass light fixtures, and concrete countertops.
