Fermenting Change

Architecturally speaking, of course, in Massachusetts, Vermont, and now Connecticut. Yes, it’s a bad pun, but it fits and we’re all about appropriate design, if not upcycling. Building on our previous accomplishments at the Northampton BreweryAustin Design’s portfolio of work with local breweries and distilleries is heating up these days (you can tell where this is going, can’t you?). Here’s a short list of the fine New England folks with whom we have the pleasure of partnering, plus one more (shhh… it’s in Connecticut and still in the can):

Footings and walls going in at the new Alchemist facility in Stowe, VT.

The Alchemist of Waterbury, Vermont has just broken ground on its new brewery and visitor center on Cottage Club Road in Stowe. ADi has been involved in this exciting project from the very beginning: owners John and Jen Kimmich hope to have it completed by the spring of 2016. We are among the horde of ardent fans that can hardly wait for the taps to start serving samples of Focal Banger and, of course, the mighty Heady Topper.

Lord Hobo Brewing in Woburn, Massachusetts is almost ready to open its doors. The new, bold venture by Daniel Lanigan and his crew debuted a few styles at the American Craft Beer Fest in Boston a couple weeks ago to great anticipation. We were able to help LHB with a few requirements early in the permitting process and we’re looking forward to the imminent arrival of the promised Boom Sauce.

The soon-to-be-transformed home of Vermont Distillers in Marlboro, VT.

Vermont Distillers in Marlboro, Vermont is the spirited venture of Ed Metcalfe (and his sons), who also happens to have founded the first winery in the Green Mountain State. They produce several different delicious liqueurs at their headquarters atop Hogback Mountain and are constantly expanding the lineup. ADi has been helping them to examine design options for their facility’s next expansion, sharing the 100-mile view from VT State Route 9.

Tree House Brewing in Monson, MA has worked very hard in their seven years of existence to prove their mettle, with great success. Embodying their signature style and careful attention to detail, brewer Nate Lanier’s beers have won wide acclaim among New England beer aficionados. They are growing by leaps and bounds and we are delighted to be pairing up with them to plot the best plan of action for their farm brewery in the center of the state.

Austin Design has another farm brewery project coming online soon, in Connecticut this time… A start-up, it’s too soon to say very much but stay tuned for updates. And there are always more brewing just around the corner. We are finding that architecture and beer do, in fact, pair very well: our brewery specialist, Peter Webster, can say cheers to that!
